Domain Name Service Features include:
Free Parking: If you want to register your domain name but still haven't decided on your hosting package, you can "park" it on the server for free for as long as it's registered. This prevents anyone else from snapping up your domain name while you decide which hosting package is best for you.
Custom Homepage: You can actually set up a very simle one-page, text-based website without having an official web hosting package! It's bare-bones and you have to type (or paste) the HTML code in yourself, but it's a handy way to get a dirt-cheap web page up and running quickly!
Email Forwarding: Want people to be able to send email to yourname@yourdomain.com without having to pay for a full hosting package? Just type in what address you'd like to have email forwarded to, and everything@yourdomain.com will go there! Turn your Hotmail or Yahoo! Mail account into a professional email account without the expense!
Email Aliases: You can even have mail sent to multiple accounts (name1@yourdomain, name2@yourdomain) forwarded to multiple external email accounts--all for the same $15 per year!
Email Autoreplies: When set up, any mail sent to this address will receive an automated reply message. For instance, you could set things up so that whenever someone sends a message to "sales@yourdomain.com", they will receive an automatic response thanking them for their message and promising to respond to them as soon as possible.
Web Redirection: Perfect for those who have a free or ad-based website located at Yahoo GeoCities or provided by their ISP (ie, "http://members.aol.com/user1212/"). You can have your domain name automatically repoint towards the longer URL without people having to remember an awkward, drawn-out web address.
DNS Redirection: Specialized DNS servers can be set up to redirect client requests by resolving the original server to IP address of a different content server (surrogate), based on resource location, network conditions, content type, etc.
A Records: An A (Address) record allows you to point a subdomain to an IP address. For example, one A record might be to have "mail.yourdomain.com" point towards an internal email server, while "www.yourdomain.com" points towards the external web hosting server.
MX Records: An MX (Mail Exchange) record points to backup mail servers in case the sending host could not connect to the destination given in the mail. If a host has three MX records, a mailer will try to deliver to all three before queuing the mail.
CNAME Record: Creates an alias of a canonical name. The alias gains all properties of the original, including IP addresses and mail routes. Because of this, it is illegal for there to be any other record with the same owner name as a CNAME record. It is also illegal for any record other than a CNAME record to refer to an alias.
Register Lock: A feature which locks all of the information in a domain record at the Registry so that it cannot be modified. When active, Registrar Lock prevents a domain name from being transferred, deleted and/or modified by a third party. The only way to modify any of the information for a particular domain is to log into our manage area.
Web-Based Control Panel: A password-protected web address which allows you to manage, add, delete, and modify all of the above features.
